Our ISO Implementation Approach

Achieving ISO certification requires more than simply producing documents. Our approach focuses on developing practical management systems that integrate with your existing processes and meet certification body expectations.

Step 1 - Gap Analysis

We begin with a structured gap analysis to assess your current processes against the requirements of the relevant ISO standard (such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 or ISO 45001).

This assessment identifies where your existing arrangements already meet the requirements and where improvements are needed. The outcome is a clear action plan outlining the steps required to achieve certification, allowing your organisation to understand the scope of work, priorities, and implementation timeline.

Step 2 - System Development

Following the gap analysis, we develop a tailored management system designed around how your organisation actually operates.

This typically includes the development of key policies, procedures, and operational records required to demonstrate compliance with ISO requirements. Rather than creating unnecessary bureaucracy, the system is designed to remain practical, efficient, and easy for staff to follow, while still meeting the expectations of certification auditors.

Step 3 - Implementation Support

Once the system has been developed, we support your organisation through the implementation phase.

This includes providing guidance to managers and employees on how the system should operate in practice, assisting with the completion of key records, and ensuring processes are consistently applied across the business. The aim is to ensure the management system becomes part of normal business operations rather than simply existing as documentation.

Step 4 - Certification Audit Preparation

Before your certification audit takes place, we support your organisation in preparing for the Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification assessments.

This includes conducting internal audits, reviewing key documentation, and ensuring sufficient records are available to demonstrate that the management system is fully implemented. We also provide guidance on what certification auditors typically look for, helping ensure your organisation is fully prepared for a successful certification audit.

Rob Westwood, ISO consultant and founder of AlineX, providing expert support for ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certification

Hi, I'm Rob, founder of AlineX.

With over 10 years' experience across manufacturing, environmental management, quality systems and Health & Safety, I help businesses implement practical management systems that deliver real results. Before establishing AlineX, I held operational and leadership roles within industry before moving into third-party certification auditing, giving me a unique perspective on what works in the real world and what certification bodies actually expect to see.

Today, I support organisations across the UK with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 implementation, internal auditing, gap analysis and ongoing compliance support. Having worked as both a consultant and Certification Auditor, I've sat on both sides of the audit table and understand the challenges businesses face when trying to balance compliance with day-to-day operations.

My focus has never been on creating unnecessary paperwork. Instead, I work with businesses to build management systems that improve performance, reduce risk and support long-term growth whilst remaining practical and easy to maintain.
